Summary of "The Report Card" by Andrew Clements.

Yesterday I finished reading a book called "The Report Card" by Andrew Clements. "The Report Card" is about a fifth grade girl who is very intelligent, but is trying to prove a point by getting bad grades on tests/quizzes, homework, and of course report cards. If you haven't read this book but would like to know more, keep reading...

Summary:

Nora Rose Rowley is a fifth grade student. On her first 5th grade report card, she got terrible grades. English-D, Math-D, Science-D, PE-D, Spelling-C, and last but not least, Art-D. Nora got these grades on purpose. Her parents, siblings, teachers, and friends aren't happy about these grades at all, but somehow she is. Nora has been keeping a secret from her parents since she was 2 years old. Her parents don't know how smart Nora is, and how much intelligence she has. For example: If a teacher says that nothing is faster than light, Nora goes against what the teacher says. If the teacher says that light travels at the speed of 186,000 miles per second, Nora says that thought is actually faster than light. Nora's proof: If you say 'Alpha Cantauri' your thought has already traveled out into space and back again; but it would take almost nine years to make a round trip to 'Alpha Cantauri'. Nora basically meant that thought travels at least 840 times faster that light. Even the teacher was amazed.
Nora and her best friend Stephen came up with a plan. They told every kid in the school to do bad on tests. Nora and Stephen told everyone to get a zero. And everything happened in a BOOM...
The next day at school, in Nora's social studies class, their teacher got so mad that he looked like he was going to explode. He got mad because everyone got a zero on their test;expect for two kids. All the kids at school thought that school was a place to joke around. This happened to all of the teachers. Soon about 1 or 2 weeks later, Nora's parents and Stephen's parents got involved in this. The principal and even the school district got involved in this as well. Everyone blamed this on Nora and Stephen. So the principal suspended Nora and Stephen for a week. But Nora requested if she could go up stage in front of all the kids and that if she and Stephen could say a speech. The principal said alright. So Stephen and Nora went to the front of the stage and said :
"Boys and Girls, Ladies and Gentlemen, we want to let you know that school is an important part of your life; it is not a place to joke around. Stephen and I made a plan to let everyone fail tests. We did this because we thought it was not fair that some kids were above standards and some were below average. This situation made some kids feel that they were dumb or smart. That is why we wanted everyone to be the same. That means all the smart kids help the kids who are struggling rather than showing off. But now we know some teachers/students don't like this so we want everyone to be normal and STOP failing tests and always do your best. So sorry about this whole failing test idea." Everyone applaused. Some were even about to cry. The Principal and the head of the School District decided that Nora and Stephen were not suspended. They also decided to give less homework. This is the end of the story.
