Deadly San Francisco Earthquake Kills Millions!!!

This was one of my Science Class assignments. I was supposed to write about a natural disaster. I choose to write about the San Francisco Earthquake that happened in 1906. I pretended I was a news reporter--so I wrote in "First Person" point of view.

DEADLY SAN FRANCISCO KILLS MILLIONS!!!

WHEN: April 18,1906
WHERE: San Francisco Bay Area of Central California
LOCAL TIME: 5:12 A.M.

Shocking news...

A few weeks ago, a deadly earthquake struck San Francisco at 5:12 A.M.. This shocking quake has been the prevalent earthquake in American History! Many citizens were affected, and various properties were destroyed. The magnitude of this earthquake was 8.3. The quake was felt from Oregon to Southern California, Coos Bay, South to Los Angeles, Nevada, and San Juan Bautista in Southern California. The U.S. Weather Bureau on Post St. in SF says "the earthquake was felt from about 375,000 square miles!" Everyone was stunned imagining what a disaster could happen at a time like this!

Deaths, Injuries and Damage...

This underground eruption has killed more than 3,000 citizens. 498 deaths have been established by polices in San Francisco, 64 bodies were exposed in Santa Rosa, and 102 deaths were in and near San Jose. We still don't know if any additional bodies were found yet. About 225,000 people were injured, and the same number of people turned out to be homeless from a population of 400,000 people. 28,000 buildings were shattered. 24,671 wood buildings and 3,168 brick buildings were devastated. Overall, 28,188 buildings were all gone. Monetary loss more than $400,000,000 from the earthquake!

Earthquake causes Fire...

Instantaneously after the earthquake, flames were noticeable. Some smoke became visible. The fires started in every segment in the corners of cities. Some were caused by electric wires, and others were caused by petrol. There were more than 50 fires in diverse location. All buildings burned down and peoples' bodies were buried in ash. San Francisco looked like a city destroyed by numerous terrible disasters.

Utopias or Dystopias

This is one of my assignment for English class in 6th grade. This essay was written in April 5, 2007. This essay is based on a story called The Giver.

Not one perfect society has ever existed in the world. There are always mistakes people make, which can ruin the community. In The Giver, not everyone is happy in the community they live in. Two people in particular, begin to realize that one small mistake can turn out to be chaotic. It is justifiable to classify the community in The Giver as a dystopia.
In this society, nobody feels pain besides The Giver and Jonas. It is necessary for people to feel pain because people should be able to feel their emotions or their own feelings. If Jonas or The Giver share their painful memories to the community, then everyone would be burdened and pained. "They have never known pain," Jonas thought desperately, one day. If the people in the community get hurt or feel uneasy, they take a pill and get cured right away. In addition, the community never feels pain because they are protected by medication. This is one reason of why this community is known as a dystopia.
Another thing that makes this community a dystopia is lack of color. In the community, nobody sees color except The Giver and Jonas. Everyone else can only see shades of black, white, and gray. Jonas also thinks is unfair of not having color. "Well, if everything's the same, then we won't have any choices!" Jonas complained to The Giver one day. To gain control of many things, people had to let go of others. One of them was color.
One of the most unfair rules that this community has is freedom. Nobody has freedom or independence. For instance, kids' jobs/careers are already picked for them. The kids don't have any choice. People over the age of 65 start their elderly lives in The House of Old. There are so many rules that people have to obey. These people don't have their freedom. If they don't have freedom, then they can't live their own free life.
In conclusion, the community in The Giver, two people tried to make their community a 'Utopian' society, but unfortunately it didn't work out. A lot of things made this community a dystopia. People should be able to feel their emotions, or pain. Everyone should be able to see everything--color. Mainly, every person has a right to have freedom, and live free. Last but not least, no one is perfect and it takes hard work to make a 'Utopian' society.

FACTS

Euclid
c.300Bc

Euclid was one of the world's greatest mathematicians. He was mainly famous for his contributions to the field of geometry. He was called "the father of geometry". Euclid wrote about the relationship between the fields of math, astronomy, and music. In addition, Euclid's work was so influential that a branch of geometry was named after him. Related to the past, Euclid was also a teacher for Alexandria The Great. Last of all, some geometry rules we study in school today, are from Euclid's writing.

World War II

The World War II started on September 1st, 1939. Britain and France first declared war on September 3rd. Germany also was part of World War II. Slowly Germany started to takeover Poland, China, Japan, Africa, Europe and other places. Italy and Japan wanted to help Germany for this war. The United States was not part of this war, but when the people in U.S. heard about it, they decided to cut Oil tanks from Japan. The Japanese people got really mad, so they bombed Pearl Harbor. As soon as Japan bombed Pear Harbor, in Hawaii, the people in United States got really frustrated. Now you may ask, "why did they bomb Pearl Harbor, why not somewhere else?" Let me explain...
Japan bombed Pearl Harbor because Pearl Harbor had a lot of American money and American ships. When I mean a lot...... I mean.....................A LOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Since the Americans got really mad, they decided to track down Japanese Americans. When American soldiers got to Japan, they were Aliens to them. Anyway, the American soldiers interned the Japanese-Americans into a concentration camp. The Japanese-Americans had forsaken their homes. They all got evacuated.

Dream

All about my dream...

My sister and I were walking alone in a city with no name. My dad was coming home from work and my mom was having a conversation with my aunt, and grandparents. My sister and I were going nowhere, we were just following the road. Suddenly, a drunk lady started to follow us. She kept on getting closer and closer, as we kept on walking faster and faster. Finally, the lady ran and caught up with us. I was really frightened as my sister was hiding behind my legs. It was evident that the lady wanted to say something. She asked ignorantly, "do you have any drugs or cigarettes?" My sister and I stood in silence. Someone threw a rock at the lady's head and she turned around. During that moment, my sister and I ran. We both ran so fast, we couldn't look back. After all that running, we got tired. We were panting as we slowly looked back. The lady was out of our sight. Our heart started to relax as we walked forward.
When we curved around the corner, a sign said "Harrison BLVD" I looked back, another sign said "W. Mac Author" on my right there was no sign, but on my sister's right side a sign said "Webster." I was confused. I think we were lost-completely. My sister said nervously "Where are we sis.?" I couldn't tell her we were lost, or else she would start to cry. I thought for two minutes then said "We'll reach home if we walk another five blocks" as my fingers were crossed behind my back. I couldn't believe I was lying to my six year old sister!
I saw the back of a lady. I ran up to her and said "Excuse me, we are lost. Do you mind to help us?" When the lady turned around, my eyeballs were wiggling around the floor. That lady was the same lady who asked for drugs and cigarettes! I was stunned. I rapidly took my sister's hand and I ran. I crooked my head a bit, and saw the same lady running, trying to catch up with us. I found a narrow corridor and ran inside. I saw some trash cans and I hid behind them, holding on to my sister's cold fingers. All of a sudden, I saw a black shadow...
I closed my eyes shut, and hoped not to see that weird lady again. M-e-a-o-w, a cat came by. My sister patted the cat, but I told her not to. The cat had dark red eyes that matched the lady's eyes. Then saw a video-recorder attached to the cat's stomach. Somebody was recording us! I told my sister not to go near the cat. She asked why. I told her I didn't have time to explain. She kept on irritating me, so I told her everything. When I was about to say the last sentence, my sister stood still looking at something behind my back. I quickly turned my head and I saw a lady. She was the same lady!
I looked around, there was no place to hide or run. Slowly the lady pulled a thick chain...
she held the chain around our necks and..........

OWWWWW!!!!!! "Wake Up Dikshya!" said my mom. "Huh? What? Where am I?" I replied. "You're in bed silly. Wake up now, or else you will be late for school." I jumped out of my bed. I darted all around the house. I looked at my sister, I looked at my dad. I examined the kitchen, living room, and the bathroom. I looked all around my cat, making sure there was no hidden video-camera. Someone patted me on my back, I jumped up and screamed....
"GET AWAY YOU MENTALLY DRUG ADDICTED LADY!!! WHY DO YOU HAVE TO FOLLOW MY SISTER AND I? HUH? WHY DO YOU..." My voice faded away. I was talking to my mother! "I'm sooooooo s-o-r-r-y mom!!! I thought you were that lady." My mom said "Honey, this whole drug addicted lady was all a dream. Here, close your eyes." I shut my eyes, but tried to peek. My mom pinched my cheeks really hard. "Ouch!" I shouted. "Feel better now?" My mom smiled. I tried to smile, but only a confused expression came out of my face. I didn't understand. I had so many questions in my mind. "Uh-huh. Yeah I guess." "Get up and get ready for school. OK?"

I couldn't believe this was all a dream.

The End
